Survey Methodology

Beate Meinl-Reisinger had to absorb the largest loss. She slipped by eleven points and now stands at a balance of minus 20. According to OGM, the decline follows the debate over the exclusion of NEOS co-founder Veit Dengler from the parliamentary club and the party. Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) also lost six points and comes in at minus 15, which is linked to the discussion about heat in schools.

Largest Loss for NEOS Leadership

Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen remains at the top of the overall trust index with an unchanged balance of plus 23. Third National Council President Doris Bures follows with plus 15, though she had to give up three points. Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) holds the best value among the party chairs, but lost five points and now stands at a clearly negative balance of minus 10.

Top Values and Stable Figures

Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer (SPÖ) is the only government member with a positive trust balance. He comes in at plus 11 and gained five points compared to April. The article draws a possible connection with Marterbauer's cancer diagnosis, which became known on the first day of the survey.

Among the party chairs, the order remains essentially unchanged compared to the previous month, although there are in some cases significant shifts. SPÖ chair and Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler is at minus 35, narrowly ahead of FPÖ chair Herbert Kickl, who as the only party chair gained six points but with minus 36 still occupies last place among the party chairs. Green party chair Leonore Gewessler follows in third place with minus 23, two points fewer than in April.

Government Members Under Pressure

Among the other government members, Finance State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, as the highest-rated ÖVP government member, records a balance of minus 3 and gained two points. Health and Social Minister Korinna Schumann (SPÖ) lost six points and now stands at minus 13, which OGM links to the announcement of the results of the reform partnership. Science Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner (SPÖ) slipped just into negative territory at minus 1 after losing six points – according to OGM, mainly due to the debate over possible cuts in the university budget.

The new ÖVP club chair Ernst Gödl, who was surveyed for the first time following the resignation of August Wöginger, achieves the best value among the club chairs with minus 4. National Council President Walter Rosenkranz (FPÖ) is at minus 36. State Secretary Josef Schellhorn has the worst trust balance at minus 38, placing him behind Kickl and Rosenkranz.

Overall Picture Remains Negative

Overall, the index shows a divided picture: while individual politicians such as Marterbauer or Kickl can gain ground, losses dominate among most government members and party chairs. The values for federal politics remain predominantly in negative territory; only Van der Bellen, Bures, and Marterbauer achieve positive balances.
