In a fire in a multi-story residential building in Vienna's Meidling district on Monday, a man was injured and had to be hospitalized; the fire brigade quickly extinguished the blaze, and the cause is still unclear.

In the courtyard of an apartment building in Vienna-Meidling, there was initially heavy smoke development. As the Vienna Professional Fire Department announced in a press release, investigations into the cause of the fire were still ongoing. A man was taken to a hospital after the incident.

Since it was a multi-story building, the fire department declared alarm level two. With this elevated alarm level, the emergency forces secure additional personnel and vehicle reserves when fires on higher floors or in dense development make the situation difficult to survey.

Operation under alarm level two

The fire in the apartment was quickly brought under control and extinguished. As a result, the property damage remained limited to the affected apartment according to initial information. No further details were initially available on the amount of damage or the condition of the injured person.

The smoke development in the courtyard spread through ventilation shafts and open windows, which also triggered several fire alarms in neighboring buildings. Residents of the adjacent stairwells were asked by the fire department as a precaution to keep windows and doors closed.
