Vienna, July 13, 2026
On the late afternoon of July 13, 2026, a fire broke out in an apartment on the third floor of an eight-story high-rise on Wolfganggasse in Vienna's 12th municipal district, with two persons being injured.
Major Operation in Meidling
Due to the heavy smoke development, the Vienna Professional Fire Department immediately declared Alarm Level 2 and dispatched several fire engines to the Meidling municipal building. A short time after the first units arrived, the fire in the affected apartment could be brought under control and subsequently extinguished.
While a breathing protection squad advanced into the burning apartment via the stairwell, a second hose line in the inner courtyard prevented the flames from spreading in the outer area. At the same time, additional squads secured the neighboring apartments and the upper floors via the stairwell, which was kept smoke-free by means of positive pressure ventilation.
