At the Hamburger Sommerdom on the Heiligengeistfeld, around 20 people were trapped in a chain carousel on Monday evening while the rest of the event had already ended at midnight.
Technical malfunction on the Heiligengeistfeld
The incident occurred late in the evening of August 25, 2026, at around 10:15 p.m. on the Sommerdom at the Heiligengeistfeld in the St. Pauli district. According to a spokesperson for the Hamburg police, the gondolas of a chain carousel with about 20 passengers stopped in an elevated position and could no longer reach the ground.
According to initial findings, it was a technical malfunction, the exact cause of which has not yet been conclusively determined. The Hamburg fire department deployed with turntable ladders and special equipment to rescue those trapped from the cabins. According to the emergency services, the rescue operation took several hours.
