In Vienna, officers arrested a 23-year-old Serbian national on Favoritenstraße during the night into Wednesday who, according to the Vienna Police, is alleged to have been active as a so-called "collector" in the fake police officer scam.
As police announced, the suspect had previously been identified and placed under surveillance by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office (LKA). The arrest was ultimately carried out by officers of the Operational Group for the Combating of Street Crime (EGS). According to reports, the man was stopped and arrested in his car on Favoritenstraße in Vienna's tenth district.
During the search, officers seized a larger amount of cash, receipts, and several forged police identification cards, according to police. These finds support, in the investigators' assessment, the suspicion that the 23-year-old was directly involved in the crimes. The identification cards were purportedly used to present themselves to victims as supposed police officers and to obtain money or valuables.
