Austria Driving License Statistics 2025: Record High for Motorcycles

The Class B license for cars also recorded significant growth. The number of newly issued B licenses rose noticeably compared to 2024.

Decline in Bus Licenses

According to Statistics Austria, the development shows that interest in motorized individual transport in Austria remains unbroken. A continuous upward trend can be observed particularly among younger driving school students.

In contrast, the number of bus licenses declined. Statistics Austria recorded a decrease here compared to the previous year.

On a regional level, urban areas, particularly Vienna, accounted for the largest share of new issuances. In Burgenland and in rural regions, demand for car licenses was also high.

Younger Driving School Students Drive the Trend

The A1 class for lighter motorcycles also recorded rising numbers. This development suggests that many beginners are choosing the path through smaller engine displacement classes.

Manuela Lenk from Statistics Austria explained that the increase in A-class licenses is attributable to several factors. In addition to the growing popularity of motorcycles, the increasing electrification in the two-wheeler segment also plays a role.

For the coming years, the statisticians expect issuance numbers to remain high. According to the experts' assessment, the trend toward early acquisition of a driving license, for example through the L17 regulation, is likely to continue.
