In 2025, Austria issued more driving licenses than at any time in the past 13 years. As Statistics Austria reported on Tuesday, the number of driving licenses issued was at its highest level since 2012.

In total, the country recorded 25,712 A-class licenses issued for motorcycles. This represents an increase of 5 percent compared to the previous year and is the highest figure since 2006.

Historic High in Motorcycle Licenses

The statisticians attributed the increase partly to the L17 regulation. It enables accompanied driving from age 17 and is being used by more and more young people to gain driving experience early on.
