The Austrian federal government has extended the fuel price brake after evaluations by E-Control confirmed its effectiveness.

The current evaluation by the energy regulatory authority E-Control has shown that the fuel price brake works, according to the responsible ministry. The price declines on international markets have been passed on to consumers even more strongly than required. The instrument has thereby fulfilled its central function of cushioning price spikes at gas stations and curbing inflation.

The aim of the measure, in addition to relieving drivers, is also to curb inflation, a spokesperson explained. The link with the mineral oil tax (MÖSt) ensures that tax relief reaches the pumps directly. This connection is an essential component of the mechanism and is to be retained.
