The Austrian federal government is preparing a key political decision on the fuel price brake for September, while the ÖVP and SPÖ negotiate the future design of the regulation.

Since its introduction, the fuel price brake has been one of the central economic policy instruments of the Austrian federal government. It is intended to dampen pricing at petrol stations for end consumers and, together with the rent brake, the tax cut on staple foods and the cost-reducing reforms in the energy sector, to help make daily life affordable for Austrians. This is how the government formulates it in the current agreement.
