Energy State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner (ÖVP) has announced a reform of the photovoltaic subsidy system and aims to present a corresponding draft by October, with future subsidies to be focused more strongly on electricity storage rather than on new solar panels.

The trigger for the announced reform is a subsidy call that was exhausted within 33 seconds. The vast majority of those seeking subsidies were left empty-handed, according to the ministry. This course of events has shown that the previous system needs to be fundamentally adjusted.

Energy State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner (ÖVP) is consequently announcing a reform of the PV subsidy system. Its core: the subsidy should target electricity storage rather than new PV panels. This is intended to readjust the existing subsidy logic and concentrate it on those components that are particularly relevant for the integration of solar power into the grid.
