The Austrian government is shifting photovoltaic subsidies away from small PV installations and toward storage as well as special categories such as building-integrated installations and agri-PV.

The funding landscape for photovoltaics in Austria is being reorganized. As the current funding concept shows, in future it is primarily electricity storage and large-scale special installations that are to benefit from public funds. For small photovoltaic installations, however, no dedicated funding pot is envisaged.

This brings the previous "First come first serve" procedure to an end, under which applicants were admitted according to the timing of their submission. In its place comes a system that places greater emphasis on system utility: storage balances out fluctuations in PV generation and thereby relieves the electricity grid at times of high load.
