Vienna, June 20, 2026

Digitalization State Secretary Alexander Pröll (ÖVP) has presented a significantly expanded digitalization budget at the Federal Chancellery, with which Austria aims to advance into the top 3 of Europe's digitalization league by 2028.

In total, across both years, this results in a volume of more than 200 million euros. Specifically, 106 million euros are to be made available for central projects in 2027, followed by 111.5 million euros in 2028. Added to this are funds for the EUDI Wallet and the register networking dadeX, so that the overall framework grows to more than 200 million euros according to Pröll.

Budget Path: 46 Percent Increase in 2027, 62 Percent Increase in 2028

In 2027, the digitalization budget at the Federal Chancellery grows from 57.3 million. This corresponds to an increase of up to 46.12 percent in 2027 and up to 62.36 percent in 2028 compared to 2026, as Pröll explained at a press event at the Federal Chancellery this week. For 2027, up to 117 million euros are now budgeted, and in 2028 the pot grows to up to 130 million euros.
