The Austrian government is preparing a fund-of-funds for start-ups, set to launch in early 2027 to provide young companies with additional risk capital.
After several weak years, the new vehicle is intended to bring fresh money into the domestic start-up landscape. According to the Austria Press Agency, citing Start-up State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner, the fund-of-funds is slated to launch in early 2027. The fund is meant to pool private capital and invest it in a targeted manner in young, innovation-strong companies in Austria.
The backdrop is a pronounced investment slump. As data published, among others, by EY in its Start-up Barometer shows, start-up investments in Austria declined sharply between 2022 and 2025. The main reasons cited are the end of the low-interest-rate policy and an overall stagnating economy that made investors act more cautiously.
