The Austrian women's relay team finished in ninth place in the race walking event as part of the Team European Championships in Birmingham, and thus missed out on the final of the top eight teams.

Challenges on a hilly course

The Team Relay European Championships in race walking took place on an approximately one-kilometre loop in Birmingham's city centre, which was characterised by hilly sections. This made the course demanding and posed a particular challenge for all participants, especially when it came to maintaining a consistent pace over the entire distance.

For the first time at these European Championships, both the half marathon and the marathon were on the programme, so that a total of four competitions in walking and running were started simultaneously. This combination of different disciplines on the same course made the event organisationally complex and placed increased demands on the athletes, who had to focus on their respective discipline.
