Birmingham, 15 August 2026

The Austrian women's relay team closed in ninth place at the Birmingham final, with Verena Mayr managing three season's bests in five events of the heptathlon but far from medal contention, and walker Theresia Mohr forced to give in to a stomach cramp.

The Austrian formation did not manage to enter the fight for the top positions in the Birmingham relay final, ending their effort in ninth place. The competition, held on Saturday, saw the team set off with ambitions of improving on their earlier season outings, but the final result confirmed the difficulties that had already emerged at other stops on the calendar.

Within the delegation, Verena Mayr was one of the most active athletes of the day. The multi-eventer, competing in the heptathlon, set as many as three season's bests in five events contested. In Saturday's session Mayr jumped 5.87 metres in the long jump, threw the javelin 42.10 metres and ran the 800 metres in 2:14.16, finishing the endurance event third in her heat.
