Vienna, June 1, 2026

Austria Wien was crowned Austrian Women's Football Champion for the first time on Saturday in the Generali Arena in front of 2,346 spectators with a 1:1 draw against SKN St. Pölten.

The decision came in a final that was almost impossible to top in terms of drama. St. Pölten took a 1:0 lead in the 98th minute through a penalty kick converted by Leila Peneau after Austria Wien's Katharina Schiechtl had received a red card for a high foot against Fanni Nagy in the penalty area. Referee Tobias Wimhofer awarded a penalty, and Peneau confidently converted it for her seventh goal of the season.

But Austria Wien did not give up. In the 101st minute, a free kick found its way to the center of the penalty area, where Carina Wenninger scored from close range to make it a jubilant 1:1 final score. The goal sparked boundless celebration in the stands and on the sidelines and secured the Viennese club their first championship title in club history.
