Austrian defenseman Gregor Biber signs three-year entry-level deal with Utah Mammoth

AHL assignment in Tucson

Rather than jumping directly to the NHL, Biber is expected to begin the upcoming season with the Tucson Roadrunners, Utah's American Hockey League affiliate. The AHL serves as the primary development league for the NHL, and the Roadrunners play their home games in Tucson, Arizona.

The path through the AHL is a common one for European prospects adjusting to the smaller North American ice surface and the more physical style of play. Biber's experience in the Swedish Hockey League, widely regarded as one of Europe's top professional circuits, should ease that transition.

At 6-foot-2 and with a smooth skating stride, Biber projects as a modern defensive defenseman who can also contribute in transition. His time at Rögle allowed him to play against seasoned professionals, accelerating his development beyond what is typical for a teenager.

Austrian pipeline continues

The Utah Mammoth, based in Salt Lake City, have been actively restocking their defensive pipeline. Biber becomes the latest addition to a prospect pool that the front office believes will form the backbone of the club's blue line for years to come.
