Austrian supermarket chains such as Spar, Billa, BillaPlu, Hofer, Lidl and Penny are protecting their increasingly digitalized business operations against cyberattacks.
As digital processes expand in retail and logistics, the importance of IT security for supermarket chains is also growing. Affected areas include refrigeration systems, ordering and warehouse logistics. These systems now play a role in various parts of operations.
Spar spokesperson Nicole Berkmann described the current state of security measures: “We do everything to make sure systems are safe”. According to her, the Salzburg-based family business has digitized almost all relevant processes. These include the refrigeration system, the entire ordering process and warehouse logistics.
