Austrian long-distance swimmer Luca Karl was eliminated in the semifinal of the European Championship knockout event, missing out on a place in the final by the narrowest of margins.

The Salzburg-native Luca Karl was eliminated in the semifinal of the European Championship knockout event on Friday, thereby missing the leap into the medal-deciding race. In an extremely tight race, the Austrian ultimately lacked only half an arm stroke to qualify for the final. Karl showed himself disappointed after the race, but at the same time looked back on his performance.

„Es ist natürlich ein wenig bitter, weil nur ein halber Armzug gefehlt hat, dass wir ins Finale schwimmen“, said the slightly health-hampered Karl after the competition. Despite the physical complaints, the Salzburg swimmer had fought his way into the semifinal and had long stayed within striking distance of the final places there.
