Following an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak, ten mountaineers are missing, among them the internationally renowned Nepali climber Nirmal Purja.
According to media reports, the group was on their route in the area of the 8,051-meter-high Broad Peak in Pakistan when the avalanche occurred. According to Pakistani authorities, ten mountaineers are missing. Rescue teams and helicopters are deployed, but the weather and the extreme altitude are hampering the search.
Particular attention is focused on the fate of Nirmal Purja, also known as "Nimsdai." The Nepali climber made global headlines in 2019 when he summited all 14 eight-thousanders within just seven months. This achievement was documented, among others, in the Netflix documentary "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible." There are no confirmed reports about his current condition.
