Nepalese mountain guide Hillary Dawa Sherpa, who was missing for six days on Mount Everest and was already presumed dead, was found alive near Base Camp on Thursday morning and taken by helicopter to a hospital in Kathmandu.

Hillary Dawa Sherpa disappeared in the early morning hours of May 30th in the upper reaches of Mount Everest. The 8,849-meter-high mountain is one of the most dangerous and busiest peaks in the world. After British mountaineer Chris Thrall announced the guide's death in an Instagram video message on Wednesday, rescue teams launched a search.

On Thursday morning, staff from the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) found Hillary Dawa Sherpa near Base Camp. The Nepalese team not only supports route fixing on Everest but also takes care of waste removal. Pemba Sherpa, head of the tour operator 8K Expeditions, which coordinated the search and rescue efforts, described the discovery to the news agency AFP: "He was crawling down."
