The Bank of England's rate-setting committee held its benchmark interest rate at 3.75% on Thursday, judging that recent progress on inflation would allow policymakers to wait before considering further changes.
The decision, announced after the committee's scheduled meeting, leaves the cost of borrowing unchanged for the period under review. Officials pointed to easing inflationary pressure in the economy while stressing that future moves would depend on how any new economic shocks played out across wages, prices and demand.
In a statement the committee said that interest rate changes needed to dampen inflation will "depend on the magnitude and duration of the shock, and how it spreads through the economy." The wording signalled caution: members were prepared to act if price pressures re-accelerated, but saw no immediate case for a fresh cut.
