Bankruptcy proceedings against inn-brewery BRAUOX opened at Wels Regional Court

Concept with in-house beer production

The company employs 15 staff members. 15 employees are affected by the insolvency. It remains unclear how many jobs can be preserved.

According to the company's own application, the concept included in-house beer production, which, despite intensive marketing efforts, did not work out at the location and with the audience in the Plus-City. The inn-brewery had relied on regional guests and on the shopping centre's clientele.

Consequences for creditors and employees

According to Creditreform, the continuation of the restaurant business is not planned. This means the restaurant in the PlusCity, which advertised among other things with "OXBräu" and dishes such as roast pork, pork knuckles, grilled chicken, ham noodle casserole and vegetarian egg spaetzle, is likely to close in the medium term.

The menu featured a pork tomahawk at 24.50 euros, a pork shoulder burger at 17.90 euros and, as the most expensive dish, a beef tenderloin steak at 39.90 euros. A successful visit was best rounded off with the self-brewed beer, the "OXBräu" – this recommendation from the homepage will soon belong to the past.

The insolvency affects 36 creditors in a total amount of at least around 830,000 euros. The company's own application and the opening of proceedings at the "LG Wels" are further evidence of the strained situation in the domestic restaurant industry.

Background: Pressure on the restaurant industry

The responsible insolvency judge at the Wels Regional Court is now in charge of handling the proceedings. An insolvency administrator will be appointed in the coming days to secure the assets and review the creditors' claims.

The end of BrauOX is part of a series of insolvencies affecting Upper Austrian restaurant businesses in recent months. The industry has been struggling for years with rising energy and labour costs as well as weakening consumer sentiment.

For customers of the PlusCity, the insolvency means the likely loss of an inn address that had bet on an experiential concept featuring in-house beer production and hearty Austrian cuisine.
