Vienna, June 01, 2026

The Austrian national football team will face Tunisia in a friendly match on Monday at 8:45 PM at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion, their last test before departing for the World Cup in North America.

For the 67-year-old German team boss Ralf Rangnick, the match is an important assessment of their current standing. "The game will show a lot, including what minor issues might still exist," said midfielder Christoph Baumgartner before the encounter. Rangnick himself emphasized that Tunisia was chosen due to similarities in playing style with Austria's first World Cup group opponent, Jordan.

Rangnick: No Handbrake

"There are similarities in playing style. Jordan's style of play is also focused on counter-attacks and playing from a deep block," explained Rangnick. The German also made it clear that his team would not play with the handbrake on: "You can't play a game with our style of play with the handbrake on. But that doesn't mean risking life and limb in tackles; the lads are clever enough for that."
