Bavarian woman gives birth to twins for the third time – doctor calls it coincidence

Anja Forster accompanied the couple through all three pregnancies and births. She describes the latest twin pregnancy as an extraordinary circumstance. "Es ist eigentlich Zufall," Forster said. One of the two girls carries her first name: Julia Anja Valentina.

No artificial insemination

Klinikum Fürth announced the birth via its Instagram account, writing: „Einmal ist besonders. Zweimal außergewöhnlich. Dreimal in Folge kaum zu glauben!". The Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) also reported on the family.

The parents' joy is great. Andreas Rittner told dpa in an interview: „Es ist auf jeden Fall ein sehr tolles Gefühl." During the third pregnancy, he had already jokingly explained that he expected twins again: „Ich habe gar nicht gedacht, dass da eins kommt."

Reactions from the hospital

Jasmin Rittner told dpa in February that she had always wanted many children. With the third set of twins, that wish has been fulfilled far beyond what was originally imaginable.

Statistically, triplets and higher-order multiples are extremely rare, but according to experts, consecutive twin births do occur with increased frequency in some families. A hereditary predisposition to multiple pregnancies can play a role, Forster explained.

According to the father, the Rittner family does not currently plan to have any more children. First and foremost, the priority is organizing daily life with six children – including three sets of twins of different ages.
