Brussels, 10 July 2026
Belgium's three regional governments have agreed to introduce a road toll sticker for all passenger cars up to 3.5 tonnes, with the system planned to take effect in 2027 and apply to both domestic and foreign drivers.
Three regions align on a common plan
Walloon Minister for Infrastructure and Mobility François Desquesnes presented the plans on Friday, according to the Belgian news agency Belga. The agreement covers Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels, the country's three regional entities, which had previously struggled to align on a common approach. Until now, drivers have been able to use nearly all road sections in Belgium toll-free.
Under the proposal, the cost of the toll sticker will vary depending on the vehicle type. Electric cars are planned to be the cheapest category at 90 euros per year, while old cars with combustion engines are planned to be charged up to 125 euros. The vignette cost varies depending on the vehicle model and pollutant emissions.
