Potsdam, 06 July 2026

The Potsdam Ernst von Bergmann Hospital will wind down its vascular surgery and orthopedics departments due to the nationwide hospital reform, as the municipal healthcare provider announced on Monday.

The measure is based on new nationwide requirements for the introduction of so-called service groups, which, among other things, "place greater focus on personnel qualifications and minimum volumes." The reform provides for concentrating certain services at individual locations. Services that are "already offered at a high level at other locations" should no longer be maintained in parallel in the future.

The hospital is responding to the hospital reform together with St. Josefs Hospital in Potsdam. Some services will no longer be offered in parallel. As a result, the region will in future bundle certain surgical procedures at one location each, in order to meet the professional and personnel requirements of the new regulations.
