Berlin Senate wants to dismiss State Secretary Hundt – Transition payment of around 72,000 Euros possible

According to his lawyer, Hundt had originally requested his dismissal himself but later withdrew the application. "My client is no longer requesting his dismissal for two reasons," the lawyer announced on Friday evening. This would trigger the regulation for transition payments.

The amount of the transition payment corresponds to six times the monthly salary, "so about 72,000 Euros." Since Hundt withdrew his dismissal request, he would be dependent on this transitional arrangement should the Senate dismiss him nonetheless.

Transition Payment and Financial Consequences

Hundt's lawyer simultaneously rejected accusations against his client. "Above all, the accusations made against him are baseless," it stated. The client had also expected that the media campaign against him would end with his offer of resignation. "Unfortunately, this hope was disappointed."

Hundt was reportedly angered by the "obviously deliberately spread rumor that he had merely preempted his dismissal with his announced offer of resignation." The lawyer saw this as an attempt to cast his client's motives in a different light.

Investigations by the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office

The background to the affair is an investigation by the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office in connection with the insolvency of one of Hundt's companies. As the public prosecutor's office explained, "insolvency proceedings were opened on November 25, 2025, concerning the assets of Hundt's consulting company SDC Sachsen Digital Consulting GmbH."

Research by MDR and RBB had made the investigations public. According to sources close to Hundt, a business audit by the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund is also underway for SDC Sachsen Digital Consulting GmbH, "to clarify whether any outstanding contribution claims exist at all."

According to his lawyer, Hundt bears no responsibility for the insolvency of Humboldt Capture Germany GmbH. "He was never a shareholder there, but only an external managing director, and that only until autumn 2024," the lawyer explained.

Reactions and Unanswered Questions

It remained unclear for the time being how the Senate politically assesses the further course of action and what consequences the ongoing investigations could have for Hundt's tenure. The State Chancellery announced that the body intends to decide on the dismissal on Tuesday.
