The first "Urbanliner" of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) began regular service on tram line M4 on Wednesday morning, after the vehicle had waited years for its approval.
The new, extra-long tram of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe is entering regular service. The 50-meter-long vehicle, manufactured by Alstom, left its depot in the morning and ran on schedule for the first time on line M4, one of the most heavily used routes in the Berlin tram network. This brings an end to a long phase of tests, construction work, and coordination with the Technical Supervisory Authority. The so-called Urbanliner was actually supposed to have been in service long ago. However, construction work still had to be completed first.
