The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) on Wednesday presented a new bus stop in Berlin-Mitte together with the outdoor advertiser Wall as a pilot project, equipped with safety technology, digital information, and additional services.
The test waiting shelter is located at the Spandauer Straße/Marienkirche stop near Alexanderplatz. It is part of a multi-month pilot project through which BVG aims to test how bus stops can offer more safety and service in the future. According to BVG, it is a joint concept between the outdoor advertiser and the transit company.
Among the features of the new shelter is a direct voice connection to BVG's security control system, which can be used in the event of crimes or other incidents. In addition, a defibrillator is installed for medical emergencies. Solar panels on the roof provide power for the lighting.
