Berlin, July 6, 2026
The black-red federal government of CDU/CSU and SPD is planning to eliminate the monthly immediate supplement of €25 per child for minors affected by poverty, which is part of the child supplement (Kinderzuschlag), according to a law approved by the federal cabinet.
The monthly immediate supplement of €25 per child is included in the legislation. It was introduced in July 2022 to improve the situation of poor children until the former "traffic light" coalition of SPD, FDP and Greens under Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) could implement a comprehensive child basic security package (Kindergrundsicherung). The traffic light coalition under Chancellor Scholz had intended to bundle and improve the state's family benefits through a child basic security package.
