Ried-Kaltenbach, 18 July 2026

Bone remains found in Tyrol's Zillertal valley have been confirmed as those of a 23-year-old man who had been reported missing, according to Austrian press agency APA.

The discovery was made by a woman walking her dog in the area of the Märzenklamm gorge, a narrow ravine near Ried-Kaltenbach in the Zillertal. The walker alerted authorities after noticing the remains along the Märzenbach stream. Austrian news agency APA reported that forensic examination confirmed the bones belonged to the missing man, identified in coverage as Engelbert Eberharter.

Local police in the Zillertal had previously searched the area as part of the investigation into the man's disappearance. The Märzenklamm and the surrounding stretch of the Märzenbach have been a focus of the inquiry, though officials have not publicly detailed the exact circumstances that led the man to the remote location. The recovery closes a search that had drawn attention across the region.
