The windsurfer Valentin Bontus finished in tenth place at the Olympic test regatta off Los Angeles in Long Beach, thereby completing an initial benchmark for the upcoming Games.

The test regatta in Long Beach was regarded as an important trial run for the Olympic competitions, which are to be held in the Los Angeles region. Bontus, who competes for Austria, used the event to gain initial experience with the venue, which will play a central role at the Games.

In the overall standings, the Lower Austrian landed in tenth place. He thereby missed a top placement, but was nevertheless able to take away insights about equipment and tactics that are relevant for further preparation.

Bontus himself drew a mixed balance after the regatta. "On the one hand, my support team and I were able to gather initial experience of the venue; on the other hand, because of the equipment problems and a few wrong decisions in individual races, it was difficult days," he said.
