Austrian kite surfer Valentin Bontus has secured his position in the Gold Fleet at the Kite World Championships in Quiberon, France, after a series of strong performances in challenging conditions.

Competition Highlights

Keanu Prettner and Jakob Flachberger defended their overall lead in the 49er World Championships, showcasing consistent form in the races off the coast of Quiberon. Meanwhile, the Nacra 17 class faced disruptions due to strong gusts, preventing any races from taking place. Laura Farese and Matthäus Zöchling remain in eleventh place as a result.

Bontus, reflecting on his performance, stated: *"Ich habe dann aber von Rennen zu Rennen besser hineingefunden und am Ende solide abliefern können."* ("I gradually found my rhythm race by race and was able to deliver solidly in the end.") The 2024 Austrian Athlete of the Year will now focus on the upcoming Gold Fleet races scheduled for Thursday.
