The British energy group BP recorded a strong price gain on Tuesday thanks to significantly higher oil prices, thereby extending its year-to-date performance to around 30 percent.
In early trading on the London Stock Exchange, the BP share added around one and a half percent. The stock thereby continued its upward trend so far this year and reached a year-to-date gain of approximately 30 percent. The price increase followed a significant rise in oil prices, which improved the earnings outlook for the major energy companies.
The backdrop is a tight supply situation on the global oil market. The conflict in the Middle East as well as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important shipping routes for crude oil, had recently pushed prices upward. Developments in the USA, in Austria and in the broader Iran region were also cited by market observers as price-supporting factors.
