Oil prices barely changed on Monday as markets digested the tensions surrounding Iran, a possible confrontational course by the United States, and an Israeli military strike against a Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon.
At the start of trading in Europe and Asia, the major crude oil benchmarks were largely unchanged. Traders noted that the heightened risk of supply disruptions from the Persian Gulf region had so far not been priced in significantly.
Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo Markets, said: "Die Drohung beispielloser US-Maßnahmen zur wirtschaftlichen Isolation Irans, eine unbefristete Seeblockade und erneute Angriffe auf Tanker erhöhen das Risiko weiterer Angebotsausfälle". She was referring directly to the possible consequences of a tougher approach by Washington toward Tehran.
