Brandenburg Country Outing Draws Around 75,000 Visitors to 135 Farms

According to the Brandenburg Ministry of Agriculture, one-fifth of agricultural businesses in Brandenburg are led by women, while nationwide around eleven percent of farms are in female hands. Mittelstädt stressed that direct insights into production strengthen understanding of regional products. She said: "Wer sieht, mit wie viel Fachwissen, Einsatz und Sorgfalt regionale Produkte entstehen, versteht besser ihren Wert und ihre Bedeutung für unsere Region".

Diverse Offerings Spread Across the Region

At the Domin agricultural business in Senftenberg-Peickwitz, guests were able to sample fresh meat and sausage specialties from the farm's own livestock, including a pig on a spit. The business is also involved in research projects on agroforestry. In addition, visitors could look forward to a tractor meet and carriage rides through the surrounding area.

Numerous other businesses took part in the campaign across the region. The Jakobshagen horse farm in Boitzenburger Land in the Uckermark invited visitors to dressage demonstrations. The Kremmen asparagus farm in the district of Oberhavel offered a farm shop as well as animals to pet. At the Brodowin eco-village in Chorin in Barnim, visitors could take part in guided tours of the farm.

Organisers Draw a Positive Balance Sheet

Many farms also provided a special programme for children to introduce younger guests to agriculture. Brandenburg is known not only for asparagus and cucumbers, but also, among other things, for sea buckthorn, underscoring the diversity of regional products. The organisers see such hands-on offerings as an important contribution to education for both young people and consumers.

The Brandenburg Country Outing is organised by the Pro Agro association, the regional farmers' association (Landesbauernverband), and the countrywomen's association (Landfrauenverband). Managing director Kai Rückewold said at the close of the Country Outing on Sunday that the event makes visible who stands behind the products and that it builds trust. According to the Pro Agro association, around 75,000 visitors made use of the offerings.

Rückewold pointed out that the Country Outing is an important platform for many businesses to bring consumers into direct contact with food production. The response from the past few days shows that interest in regional production in Brandenburg continues to grow. The organisers consider this year's edition a clear success.
