Brandenburg's state parents' council (Landeselternrat) has sent an open letter to Minister President Dietmar Woidke (SPD), urging the state government to act before the new school year as the teacher shortage threatens to leave many schools without full teaching cover.

The letter, sent ahead of the summer break, lays out the concerns of parents across the state. The Landeselternrat wrote: "Schon heute zeichnet sich ab, dass an vielen Schulen die Unterrichtsversorgung nach den Sommerferien nicht vollständig gewährleistet werden kann." It added that reports from schools are causing families "große Sorgen" and that the situation has reached a scale endangering the educational chances of many children: "Die Entwicklung habe ein Ausmaß erreicht, das die Bildungschancen vieler Kinder gefährde."
