The Brandenburg state government has announced plans to significantly expand its investments and to fully take over the state-owned investment bank ILB.
Higher equity capital for the ILB
The plans envision that the state of Brandenburg will increase its stake in the state investment bank (ILB) and thereby gain full control over the institution. This is also tied to an increase in the bank's equity capital. Finance Minister Daniel Keller justified the steps with the goal of noticeably raising the state's investment activity and strengthening the state's economic development.
Keller said on the financial implications: „Für den Anteilserwerb und das höhere Eigenkapital würden zwar Kredite aufgenommen und es gebe eine Zinslast im Haushalt. Es seien formell jedoch keine Schulden, weil es Gegenwerte für das Land gebe.“ With this argument, the state government wants to prevent the additional funds from appearing in the state's debt statistics.
