More than seven months after the spectacular theft of crown jewels from the Paris Louvre, Belgian investigators may have uncovered a new lead: photos from the affected Galerie d'Apollon were found on the phones of cargo thieves.

The images were recovered from the mobile phones of Eastern European suspects who are currently in custody in Belgium for cargo theft. Investigators stated that the analysis of the pictures is ongoing.

The jewel heist occurred on October 19, 2025, in the Louvre's Galerie d'Apollon. Two masked perpetrators entered the museum via a first-floor balcony and threatened staff. The entire operation lasted only a few minutes.

The perpetrators had parked a truck with a lifting platform next to the museum. While two accomplices waited on scooters on the street, the other two used the lifting platform to access the balcony. The stolen crown jewels are estimated to be worth 88 million euros.
