Breach of Trust Trial Against Former Linz Mayor Luger to Continue on Friday

In a reaction to the KURIER report, the Linz ÖVP has directed clear demands at the Social Democrats in Linz. The People's Party demands that current SPÖ chief Dietmar Prammer must no longer be allowed to shield Luger. Party chairman and faction are insisting on a complete clarification of the allegations.

The Linz ÖVP managing director Michael Geisler, formerly active under the name Obrovsky, sharply criticized what he sees as a lack of transparency. He argued that the allegations now directly concern SPÖ Linz and its environment, which is why Prammer must be required to make a full disclosure.

Demands of the Linz ÖVP

Geisler pointed to Prammer's special position as the authorized owner representative of the city — a function that, according to the ÖVP, was also previously held by Luger. In this position, Prammer factually has sole control over what reaches the public, according to the criticism.

At the same time, the ÖVP expressed doubts about Prammer's dual role as SPÖ chief on the one hand and mayor of the city on the other. There are concerns that party political interests and those of the city administration are not always aligned. A separation of responsibilities is therefore urged.

SPÖ Linz has so far not publicly commented in detail on the allegations and the ÖVP's demands. It remains to be seen how the Social Democrats will respond to the renewed demands for transparency and whether Friday's hearing will yield new findings.

Outlook on Friday's Hearing

Observers of the proceedings expect that the next round of hearings will serve in particular for the taking of evidence and the questioning of relevant witnesses. The role of the municipal companies, including LIVA, could also come up.

For the political landscape in Linz, the trial is of far-reaching significance. It touches not only on the personal responsibility of a former city leader, but also on the question of transparency and control of municipal decisions in Upper Austria.
