An amendment to the Political Parties Act planned in the Budget Accompanying Act is intended to explicitly authorize cabinet staff of state secretaries in the future to manage the social media accounts of their superiors without this being classified as a party donation by the federal government.
Background: Gap Regarding State Secretaries
The new social media regulation passed last year previously only affected staff of federal ministers, members of the state governments, parliamentary party leaders, and members of parliament. For state secretaries – currently seven exist – the new rules did not apply, as they are strictly speaking not members of the federal government. This gap is now to be closed with an amendment to the Political Parties Act, as "Profil" initially reported.
