The Austrian National Council on Wednesday launched the first reading of the double budget for 2027 and 2028, while the opposition sharply criticized the figures and an agreement with the Greens on the Renewable Energy Expansion Acceleration Act (EABG) was imminent.
First reading of the double budget
As APA reports, the National Council session is now debating the budget figures. This constitutes a first reading. The double budget is intended to set the budgetary path through 2028 and reduce the deficit to the permitted three percent.
After Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer (SPÖ) delivered his budget speech on Tuesday, Parliament on Wednesday was dedicated to parliamentary deliberation. The governing parties ÖVP, SPÖ, and NEOS, along with the Greens, announced a press conference on the topic for the morning, at which, according to APA information confirmed by multiple sides, an agreement was to be announced.
