The 95-year-old US investor Warren Buffett announced on Tuesday that he will give up all of his remaining Berkshire Hathaway shares within roughly eight years, transferring them to four family foundations; the foundation of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, which for years was the largest recipient of the donations, is being left out this time.
Warren Buffett said on Tuesday that he is converting 8,000 Class A shares of Berkshire Hathaway into 12,000,000 Class B shares in order to donate them to four charitable foundations. Of the 12,000,000 B shares, 9,000,000 are going to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation. The Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and the Novo Foundation are each receiving 1,000,000 B shares according to the announcement. Buffett himself remains in possession of 188,290 A shares and 1,162 B shares of the investment conglomerate.
