On Friday in Berlin, the Bundesrat approved the reform of the Domestic Violence Protection Act passed by the Bundestag, which provides, among other things, for the use of electronic ankle bracelets against ex-partners willing to commit violence.
With the amendment, family courts nationwide will receive new powers to protect those affected from domestic violence. Federal Minister of Justice Stefanie Hubig (SPD) welcomed the Bundesrat's decision. The new regulation is "a real step forward," the minister stated. At the same time, she emphasized: "Häusliche Gewalt ist kein privates Schicksal - sondern geht uns alle an."
