The Federal Competition Authority (BWB) has launched an investigation into suspected unfair trading practices in the poultry sector after the so-called Fairness Office filed a complaint.
The Federal Competition Authority (BWB) has launched an investigation into suspected unfair trading practices in the poultry sector. The trigger was a complaint filed by the "Fairness Office," established in 2022, which advises farmers in conflicts with the retail trade. This is according to information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture to the APA.
The Fairness Office fundamentally sees itself as a mediation body; a report to the investigating authority BWB is considered the last possible course of action. Until the current complaint, this had only happened once before, concerning a wholesale fruit merchant. Each year, it receives hundreds of reports from farmers who feel pressured by their buyers.
