California Attorney General Rob Bonta has filed an expanded lawsuit against the Facebook group Meta, accusing the company of deliberately making children and teenagers addicted and of misleading them about the risks of its products.
Starting point: A 233-page complaint
The lawsuit was originally filed in October 2023 and has since grown to 233 pages. It accuses Meta of regularly collecting data from children under 13 without parental consent, thereby violating federal and state laws. Attorney General Bonta said of the lawsuit: "Meta hat ein gefährliches Produkt für junge Nutzer:innen entwickelt, wusste, dass es gefährlich ist, und hat dann Kinder, Familien und die Gemeinschaft darüber belogen, wie gefährlich es war."
