The US company Meta has reached an agreement with a group of plaintiffs from several US states on an extensive package of youth protection measures for Instagram and Facebook.

The agreement provides, among other things, that young people between 13 and 17 years old may use Facebook and Instagram for a combined maximum of two hours per day. During nighttime hours between midnight and 6 a.m., an automatic block takes effect, according to an overview of the central measures. The company is responding to allegations that the platforms were specifically aimed at young users and employed mechanisms that encourage addiction.
