Italian spirits group Campari is strengthening the protection of its most important brand, Aperol, against growing competition from imitations and alternative aperitifs with new Aperol Spritz kegs, a certification program for the foodservice sector, and additional products.
Andrea Neri, managing director of Campari's aperitif division, said in Milan that the company has observed since 2023 how bars and restaurants are increasingly offering orange-colored drinks that are not necessarily made with Aperol. Neri, verbatim: "Seit 2023 beobachten wir, dass einige Bars und Restaurants begonnen haben, orangefarbene Getränke, oft vom Fass, zu servieren, die nicht unbedingt mit Aperol hergestellt werden." This development particularly affects the home market of Italy, where competition is most intense.
