During low water, emergency responders discovered a car wreck in the Rhine near Königswinter containing human bone remains, and the Bonn police are now investigating who the deceased are and how long the vehicle has been lying on the riverbed.

According to the Bonn police, the wreck was discovered when the water level of the Rhine had dropped significantly, exposing previously hidden areas of the riverbed. Emergency responders recovered the vehicle, which was identified as a passenger car in initial examinations, and found human bone remains inside.

The make of the car was described by police as a Fiat. Investigators initially provided no more precise details on the model, the place of registration, or the age of the vehicle. They also spoke cautiously about the number of bone remains found and the possible length of time the vehicle had been lying there.
