The Chamber of Labour Upper Austria has pointed out that in 2025 almost 75 percent of employees in the state went to work despite an illness, and attributes this to rising work and time pressure.

The Chamber of Labour Upper Austria (AK OÖ) has presented current data on sick leave and the behaviour of employees who fall ill. According to this, more people than ever before worked while sick. President Andreas Stangl spoke of a worrying development and pointed to the close connection between workload and presenteeism, that is, going to work despite illness.

The average duration of sick leave in Upper Austria in 2025 was 15.4 days, a slight decrease compared to 2024 (15.5 days). In the view of the AK OÖ, this decline does not go hand in hand with a better state of health among employees. On the contrary: Stangl pointed out that sick leave days are falling even though healthcare provision has noticeably deteriorated and waiting times are unacceptably long.
